Vintage 1960s gold tone round Sphinx brooch. Stunning pink Aurora Borealis circular brooch with layered round and marquise set diamante stones with diamante encrusted crescent moons. The brooch is excellent good condition, measuring 5cm in diameter and 0.6cm in width. The piece is signed on the underside of the brooch 'SPHNIX".

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Sphinx was founded by S. Root in 1948 Chiswick, England.The company employed 200-300 people making high quality jewellery. The pieces were beautifully designed and renowned ÌÇ_in many cases to look real. They produced necklaces, bracelets, pendants, brooches, earrings and charms, made in silver and god tone metals. ÌÇ_The jewellery designs include the use of coloured and ÌÇ_aurora borealis stones together with simulated pearls. In addition to their own jewellery collection, Sphinx produced jewellery for the higher end companies and department stores including, ÌÇ_Kenneth J. Lane. Butler and Wilson, Marks and Spencer, Saks 5th Avenue and Bloomingdales. Sphinx ceased trading in 2000 and therefore is very highly collectible today.
